Diatoms are unicellular, photosynthetic (autotrophic), eukaryotic organisms often classified as among the algae.They scientifically known Bacillariophyceae. study can be used in medico-legal purpose to solvethe cases of unclaimed drowned or dumped bodies. The detection diatoms organscan contribute toa diagnosis death by drowning, a process referred ‘diatom test’.This was conducted thedepartment Forensic Science, SHUATS, Prayagrajwhich included extraction and identification diatomsfrom collected water samples from three different sites Ganga River Vindhyachal. acid-digestionmethod for diatom extraction. 27 were (3 each site) month January,February, March 2022 3 ghats Vindhyachali.e Babu Ghat, Pakka Diwan Ghat. Samples weretaken surface, 1 feet 2 deep inside river. After examination analysis total 18 genera diatomswere found. identified greatecological importanceand plays an important role criminalinvestigations related pre-mortem ante-mortem drowning deaths river at Vindhyachal,district ofU.P,India
